Suggested Reading:

Bernstein, Peter
, Against the Gods
Defying the odds and still going strong in his late eighties, Bernstein raised a few eyebrows at a recent pension conference while most slept.

Bernstein, William, The Intelligent Asset Allocator
A medical doctor has written one of the best and most readable investing books, a little humbling for a finance professional.

Bodie, Kane, & Marcus, Investments
The Joy of Cooking of Finance.

Brealey & Meyers, Principles of Corporate Finance
The Larousse Gastronomique of Finance, in my opinion.

Brunel, Jean, CFA, Integrated Wealth Management
Worthwhile reading for high net-worth families. Brunel’s background includes a stint as CIO of JP Morgan’s global private bank. While I do not agree fully with all of Brunel’s views, I have benefited from reading several of his articles, attending his presentations, and reading this book.

Cambell & Viceira, Strategic Asset Allocation
Although it is intended to help the individual determine suitable asset allocation, this is a difficult book to read unless one has a finance and/or an economics background.

Chernow, Ron, The House of Morgan
For those who actually read…this one has a story.

Ellis, Charles D., Investment Policy
Highly recommended reading for anyone taking a position on a retirement plan committee or an investment committee of any organization.

Fisher, Clayton P., The Stock Market Explained for Young Investors
Start young and maximize the power of compound interest.

Gibson, Roger C., CFA, Asset Allocation
A readable book for both practitioners and interested clients.

Graham, Benjamin, The Intelligent Investor
Benjamin Graham’s readable book.

Graham & Dodd, Security Analysis
Benjamin Graham’s unreadable book.

Haugen, Robert A., The New Finance - The Case Against Efficient Markets
Ends up making the case that markets are pretty damn near efficient. We agree with small company and value anomalies, for perhaps different reasons.

Jafee, Charles A., The Right Way to Hire Financial Help
I bought this book for one of my sisters while I was an institutional investor. The book does a good job walking the investor through the financial services marketplace maze.

Malkiel, Berton, A Random Walk Down Wall Street
A readable modern classic in efficient markets hypothesis, read by all serious investors regardless of whether or not they agree.

Osborn Roger, The Mathematics of Investment
This book is out of print. If anyone has a copy, please contact me.

Wolfe, Tom, The Bonfire of the Vanities
Still building up the courage to wear a seersucker suit…
